Veganism has been gathering pace throughout the World as many people decide not to eat anything other than plant derived foods whether for welfare or environmental reasons. The vegan movement has now led many people to reconsider what they feed to their pets as well as themselves. Scampers philosophy on feeding dogs and cats has never waivered and we believe that dogs and cats should be fed a fresh and varied, low processed diet and predominantly based on meat.
Cats can NEVER be given a vegan diet or they will become extremely ill VERY quickly and sadly early death.
We have however become increasingly concerned that many pet owners are feeding a vegan diet in accordance with their own beliefs but in doing so are seriously putting their dog’s health and well-being at risk through feeding an unbalanced and inappropriate diet.
For some years we have been looking at the current commercial vegan diets available in the UK and have not been happy to list these foods in our store as we could in no way feel comfortable recommending them as an alternative to the fabulous meat based foods we are confident with.
Finally, we believe we have found a very high-quality vegan dog food that at least ticks all the amino acid and nutrient boxes required to keep dogs healthier than other similar foods and especially a lot healthier than poorly put together home-made vegan dog food.
Gather is made by World renowned pet food company Petcurean. Petcurean produce a fantastic range of meat based dry pet foods using fresh ingredients and are rated very highly by specialist dog food experts. The expertise within Petcurean in manufacturing top quality pet foods means you can guarantee that they have put enormous thought and science into making this vegan food for dogs.
Although Gather is a complete food you can still add fresh ingredients and if you have a meat free Monday based on environmental awareness then this may be the food for your dogs that you are looking for.

Organic peas, organic barley, organic oats, lentils, organic sunflower oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), potatoes, quinoa, organic flaxseed, primary dried yeast, calcium carbonate, natural vegetable flavouring, blueberries, cranberries, carrots, choline chloride, salt, dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, vitamins (vitamin A supplement, vitamin D2 supplement, vitamin E supplement, niacin, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (a source of vitamin C), d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), minerals (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, calcium iodate, selenium yeast), taurine, DL-methionine, L-lysine, L-carnitine, dried rosemary.
The amount of food your dog needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use the feeding chart on your bag of Gather as a guide only, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your dog’s ideal weight. Loose stools is the first sign of overfeeding your dog. At Scampers we always advise you weigh your dog’s food every meal.
We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Regular exercise will help maintain a healthy body weight. Love, attention and tummy rubs should be given freely, as often as possible.
