These water activated cooling coats by Animate are ideal for those hot summer days when you need to keep your favourite pet cool. Wearing a cooling coat really can save your dog’s life by helping them from overheating and preventing heatstroke.
Excessive panting and signs of real discomfort indicate overheating in dogs. A dog overheating may also be unable or unwilling to move around, so ensure you don’t force them. Get them somewhere cool and cool them down. Other signs of heatstroke in dogs include drooling, reddened gums, vomiting, diarrhoea, mental dullness or loss of consciousness, uncoordinated movement and collapse. Heatstroke is serious and if you think your pet may be suffering, take them to the vet immediately.
Heatstroke in dogs is easily prevented by taking care not to expose them to hot and humid conditions, walking them in the cooler times of the day and not allowing them to play and get overheated. This is especially important for dogs with airway diseases, senior dogs, young puppies and brachycephalic breeds with shortened faces, just like our chief testers, Rooster and Sardine. Here is a list of the recognised brachycephalic breeds.
