Pro Plan Puppy

YOUR PUPPY HAS JUST ONE YEAR TO BUILD THE FOUNDATION FOR A HEALTHY LIFE
Your puppy has three natural protective systems that support his health throughout his life; his immune system, his digestive system and the shield provided by his skin and coat. These three systems develop rapidly in his first twelve months.
But one year isn’t very long to build the foundation for a healthy life. Your puppy needs the right nourishment at this crucial stage to ensure his bones and muscles develop properly and to help his natural protective systems grow in harmony with each other, to optimise his overall protection.
And that’s why Purina vets and nutritionists have developed PRO PLAN® Puppy OptiStart® to give puppies the specific nourishment they need for the best start in life.
Your puppy undergoes enormous changes between the day he is born and the time he becomes completely adult, around his first or second birthday (depending on breed size). Here are some of the key physical developments.
Skin and Coat Health
Your puppy’s coat is composed of 95% protein, and as much as 30% of the protein in his daily diet is used for normal hair and skin growth*. If his skin and hair are in poor condition, it may mean that he is not getting the nourishment he needs. These signs can develop much faster in young puppies because their hair replacement cycle is shorter than an adult’s. Puppies need a diet that provides Linoleic acid, an important Omega-6 fatty acid, vitamins A and E, plus high-quality protein to help support a healthy skin and a protective, lustrous coat – an outward sign of good health.
Digestive Health
His digestive system will double in weight within 24 hours of birth. By the age of 3 weeks the amount of enzymes in his digestive system will have increased several fold since birth. As he grows and matures, his digestive capabilities will develop as well. The breed size of your puppy will determine when digestion reaches maturity.
Immune Health
Immunity in puppies reaches a low around 6 weeks of age and remains low until around 5 months of age. During this time, they experience an ‘immunity gap’ while their immune system matures. Puppies need a highly digestible diet that helps support a healthy gastrointestinal system; and vitamins A and E and the minerals.
Your puppy’s three protective systems must work together in harmony to help support his overall health. If the performance of one of these systems is less than 100%, it may lead to problems with the puppy’s whole system. Each of these protective systems can perform efficiently only when supplied with optimal levels of essential nutrients. And that’s why the natural food ingredients in all PRO PLAN® Puppy OptiStart® formulas are carefully selected for their effectiveness in helping to nourish a puppy’s protective systems. Body-friendly ingredients such as natural antibodies, DHA and vitamin E, omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and essential nutrients such as zinc are included at the optimal levels. With high-quality chicken, lamb or salmon as the first ingredient, and no colourants or preservatives, PRO PLAN® Puppy formulas are as tasty as they are nutritious.
