Life Gem

Precious Friends
Coping with the loss of a loved family member is one of the hardest ordeals we are ever faced with. As pet lovers, we believe the loss and the grief of our pets are no different when trying to come to terms with losing family members or close friends.
Five years ago when Michelle lost Edward, her lovely long haired Rotty, her world simply fell apart and there was little anyone could do to console her. As dog lovers we all know how it feels when we lose them and we know it never gets any easier.
Shortly after losing Edward, Michelle was scouring the Internet when she came across a company called Lifegem. Lifegem are the UK distributor and agent specialising in the manufacture of beautiful diamonds made from some of the ashes of a person or indeed a much-loved pet.
When Michelle suggested we should do this with Edward’s ashes, I must confess I thought she had finally lost it altogether! Three years on and sadly having lost another of our dogs (George the Basset) we were faced again with the dilemma and the grief of losing another of our dearest friends.
Last October Michelle and I were due to be married and I still hadn’t got her a wedding present, although I knew from our friends that Michelle had got me something lovely. Not having a wedding present was a very bad thing! I contacted Lifegem’s CEO David Hampson immediately!
I then discussed with David the possibility of having both Edward and George made into a diamond for Michelle as a wedding present, but what I had not fully appreciated was that I too was going to find this a very emotional matter to be dealing with, as I too had loved these two fantastic dogs.
However I need not have worried, as David proved to be a professional who has been involved with the memorial and remembrance industry for a long time and understood very well the feelings attached to this very sensitive subject. In October I presented Michelle with a certificate of purchase for her wedding present, but let me tell you I am glad I did it before the day of the wedding………as the tears would have ruined our fantastic day.
This week, after a six-month process, Edward and George came back to her in the form of a perfect yellow diamond weighing over half a carat and ready to be set by our jeweller Vanessa at Catherine Jones.
I may have thought it was a crazy idea in the first place but I have to say after seeing the diamond and how happy it has made Michelle it doesn’t feel so crazy now!
If you are interested in learning more about this lovely idea call into Scampers where you will find brochures about Lifegem or perhaps ask Michelle to see her new ring.
