Tendancy to Gain Weight. In his role as a companion the Cavalier King Charles is prone to weight gain, a sedentary lifestyle and neutering reduce the number of calories required to maintain a healthy body weight.
Special Brachycephalic Jaw. A moderately brachycephalic breed, the short head is wider than it is long and has a marked stop. Unlike many brachycephalic breeds the Cavalier King Charles is not prognathic. Being a mini breed the Cavalier King Charles is also at increased risk from dental plaque and tartar.
Mitral endocardiosis is a common cardiac problem for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a 1 in 2 risk of it developing. It results in poor blood circulation and reduced heart efficiency and can eventually lead to congestive heart failure and e reduced life expectancy on average only 11years.
